When did you become a tree hugger?

As I sit and look at the Douglas Fir across from my home,I wonder, When did I become a tree hugger?

I haven't always been a tree hugger, I come from a life style where wood was used for heat.Trees were used to make money, wood for heating homes, and old downed Cedar for Cedar Roofing Shakes. Trees were clear cut for schools to have money
and might I add, still are.

When did trees were to make money migrate into Trees are to be preserved, to be handled as rare and priceless, to be cared for and allowed to grow?

When did the love affair with Douglas Fir begin?

I can't figure out an exact date. I think it merged from the gray concrete,
walls that surround me in this city, known as SEATTLE.

These walls extend miles upward into the sky.

I awoke one day and realized I missed the green.
I missed the freshness of an evergreen tree.
The towering height the beauty as it gains new growth.
Year after Year being intact and green.

I became a tree hugger when the trees by my home became
an endangered species. Out of 130 trees the school district
will be removing 90+. That is when the tree hugger emerged.
I have a mission now, it starts with Ingraham High schools
Trees.

The mission continues to help pass laws, and save other
trees in our evergreen city. Let it forever be Evergreen
Let it forever have conifer forest with 100 foot or more trees.

I became a tree hugger when the trees needed a hug....

Trees in Time

Recently, I was visiting a friend who had moved into her home in 1970. She mentioned how amazed she is that the Sequia tree in her back yard is so big. When she moved in it was less than 5 foot tall, now it towers beyond 100 feet. It is a sight to behold, in a land full of houses and few trees.

She also frequently tells me how a Real Estate agent approached her to have the tree topped, so that the house they were trying to sell would have a view. Being a nice neighbor she investigated the concept, and found out it wasn't her tree that would obstruct the view, it was her neighbors bedroom wing that would obstruct the view.

Every time she views the tree; she is glad she didn't listen to the Real Estate agent.

The property behind her has changed hands at least 5 times in the last 10 years, the tree remains intact. The Beauty continuse to grow.
